Tip-Notch Smile Advice for Families

Posted Nov 30 2017

There are many reasons why you might want your family members to have top-notch smiles. One reason might be so they can have a sparkling smile. One reason might be so they can chew and talk normally. Another reason might be so they can avoid toothaches and dental discomfort. No matter the reason, our dentist, Dr. Michele S Tratos, is happy to give you the tips you need to help your family have strong and healthy smiles in Las Vegas, Nevada.

-Start your child’s oral hygiene routine at an early age. This means once their first little tooth erupts from the gums, start brushing it regularly with a soft-bristled toothbrush that is child sized. They should also visit their dentist six months after their first tooth erupts or around their first birthday.

-Consider protecting your family members’ teeth with dental sealants. Sealants are tough shells that cover and protect the teeth, keeping tooth decay and enamel erosion at bay.

-Make sure everyone gets the fluoride exposure they need. Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens the tooth enamel and helps the smile. It’s best to get fluoride exposure by brushing with fluoride toothpaste, drinking fluoridated water, and receiving professional fluoride treatments.

-Make sure everyone brushes twice a day, flosses and rinses daily, and visits their dentist every six months.

-Replace toothbrushes after they have been used for 3-4 months or after the bristles have been worn down and frayed.
