Toothaches can be quite inconvenient. They can cause sore gums, tender mouths, and even headaches. If you’re experiencing a toothache in Las Vegas, Nevada, our dentist, Dr. Michele S Tratos, is happy to help you relieve the toothache within the walls of your own home by recommending doing the following things:
First, reach for your floss. Floss can be your friend when you have a toothache, especially because sometimes toothaches are caused by a hard food particle or foreign object being stuck between the teeth or in the gums. So, grab your floss and clean each side of the tooth as well as along the gumline. This can remove the object that is causing the pain.
Second, relieve pain. You can do so by rinsing with saltwater. You can make the saltwater by mixing a half teaspoon of salt with a cup of water. When you’re ready, put the mix in your mouth and swish it around for one minute. When you’re done, spit it into the sink. You can also relieve pain by taking over-the-counter painkillers.
Third, ice outside the area. This can reduce swelling and also help with the discomfort. All you need to do is wrap an ice cube in a thin towel and place it over the aching tooth or gums.
However, sometimes bigger dental issues cause toothaches. So, if these tips don’t help you and your tooth, it’s important to schedule an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. Our dental team will be happy to determine the underlying cause and provide the necessary treatment.
